Job Description

Role of the Hotline Counselor is to take crisis calls, assess needs using provided screening tools, and refer the callers to appropriate services based on their needs and available resources in the community and the Employee Assistance Program. In addition, should the callers need emotional support for specific psychosocial problem, the counselor will provide supportive counseling on the phone during the call. Hotline Counselor will conduct follow-up communications with Intake/Wellness Counselor for case coordination.

Hotline counselor will conduct brief presenting problem screening and needs assessment interviews over the phone, develop referral plans, and write clear detailed interview and counseling notes and referral documentation. Hotline Counselor will communicate with Intake/Wellness Counselor to ensure appropriate follow up and case coordination of clients who called the hotline. Hotline Counselor will document all service activities provided to clients and the necessary client information. Counselor will attend regular professional development trainings and team meetings.

Position Requirements

Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in:

-basic understanding of social work, and comfort with application of interviewing skills upon completion of compulsory training and orientation

-basic understanding of mental health, and comfort with application of counseling skills, upon completion of compulsory training and orientation

-excellent customer services skills

-Retrieving information on community provider networks and selecting appropriate providers for referrals

-assessment and evaluation skills

-basic computer, database software, internet and telephony skills

-effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

-excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-ability to work as a team but also has initiative and self-motivation to work independently

-willingness and interest in learning about work ethics, social work, and organizational psychology

-independence and curiosity in workplace

-fluent in English and Burmese, and preferably other ethnic language of Myanmar, or Cambodian, or Laotian

-minimum Bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Work, Psychology, or other Social Sciences with some counseling experience

-preferably has interest or is engaged in any kind of personal development activities

-passionate about social impact through work and believes in the company's vision and mission

Job Conditions: Full-time work, with 16 confirmed hours of work plus 32 hours of on-call availability over the phone required every week. Remote work from home or telecommuting may be involved, where use of phone and laptop/computer is required. On-call shifts on rotating basis. Shifts are as follow: 2 regular daytime shifts at 7:30am to 3:30pm in the office, followed by 2 on-call phone overnight shifts at home from 3pm to 8am next day. Work days will be rotating with other hotline counselors throughout the week.

Salary: Depends on experience, in Myanmar Kyats between the range of an equivalent of US$800 to US$1000 per month.
