History of Huawei in Myanmar

Huawei Technology was founded by Ren Zhengfei in 1987. By 2012, in just 25 years of existence, the company became the number one telecommunication equipment manufacturer in the world. In the early days Huawei was focused on making phone switches but now has expanded into telecommunications networks; providing operational and consulting services all over the world. For the first few years, the company’s main business was to resell PBX (private branch exchange) switches imported from Hong Kong, there was always an R&D team reverse-engineering imported switches. By 1990 the company had a R&D staff of 500 and was now producing its own switches.

In 1997 the company was strongly eyeing the international market and wanted to go global. The company started its international expansion phase and bagged its first international project in that year. In 1999, they opened their first overseas R&D center in Bangalore India, in order to develop a wide range of telecom software. After achieving international sales of 100 million USD in 2000 the company increased its global expansion and established an R&D center in Stockholm. In 2004, the company got its first European contract with Telfort, a Dutch mobile operator that was valued around 25 million USD. Ever since, the company has not looked back and is now the biggest telecommunication supplier in the world.

Since the start, the focus has been on innovation. The company was investing heavily in research and development to manufacture its own technologies from day one. Even today, innovation is core to the strategy with 6.4 billion USD spent in R&D in 2014. This means a job in Huawei will ensure one to get closer to his/her creative side in order to be more innovative.
